The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole is about the misadventures of a nerdish teenage boy as recorded in his personal diary. As suggested by the title it is about the troubles and physical and mental pain growing up can cause. Adrian is going through some real tough times as his parents are on the verge of a divorce, the girl he likes starts going out with his best friend and the only person on his side is the old mad grandma who he got stuck to when he volunteered to help the aged. He thinks he is very intellectual because he writes poems and reads a lot but, at the same time he is not doing very well at school either. The plot is mainly about how Adrian goes about handling all his problems and his adventures on the way. A series filed with great comic timing and exceptional humour.
Some of the characters being, Mr. Mole, Mrs. Mole, the dog, Pandora, Pandora’s parents, Mr. Lucas, Doreen Slater, Bert and Queenine Baxter, Grandma Mole, Migel, Barry Kent, Mr. Scruton and Adrian Mole. The characters have been portrayed by great actors like, Stephen Moore, Julie Walters, and Bert Baxter the list being endless. Gian Sammarco is excellent when he portrays the character of Adrian Mole.
The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole It is an excellent series that follows the novel very closely and the cinematography makes the characters seem life-like. All in all, with a brilliant script and splendid acting talent it makes for a fun filled and humorous watching. Released on the 16th of September 1985 it was directed by Peter Sasdy and adapted for screen by Trevor Waite and Oscar Webb the sequel made a great television series for the audiences of UK. It has been inspired by novel by Sue Townsend.
